Preconception, Fertility, & Infertility

Preconception & Fertility care:

Whether you are beginning preparation for a pregnancy or have been trying for some time to get pregnant, acupuncture can provide great benefit to most women during this time.
Treatment for preconception health should begin at least 3 months, ideally 6 months, prior to your pregnancy and involves:

  • ensuring you have adequate Qi (energy) and Blood to provide sufficient resources for your growing baby
  • regulating your menstrual and hormonal cycle to help you achieve pregnancy as easily as possible as well as establish a healthier pregnancy
  • reducing pregnancy related discomforts such as morning sickness, fatigue, sleep problems, etc. by ensuring your utmost health prior to establishing your pregnancy
  • enhancing the quality and quantity of your eggs, health of your fallopian tubes and endometrial lining
  • enhance sperm quality and quantity

Fertility treatments can be utilized by couples who have been trying to conceive with some difficulty, but are not yet ready to try aggressive fertility treatments, or by those who will be undergoing Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) such as and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and want to be as healthy as possible prior to the procedure. Acupuncture may help women who are experiencing:

  • abnormal menstrual cycles
  • diminished ovarian reserve
  • endometriosis
  • fibroids
  • elevated FSH or other hormonal imbalances
  • PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
  • poor uterine lining
  • advanced maternal age
  • luteal or follicular phase defects
  • recurrent miscarriage
  • increasing sperm health (count, motility, morphology)
  • unexplained infertility
  • Acupuncture may also help men experiencing the following:

    • low sperm count
    • poor motility
    • poor morphology
    • pre-ejaculation
    • impotence
    • low libido

Rather than bypassing the reason for infertility, Chinese Medicine aims to correct the pattern in hopes the couple may become pregnant naturally. When ART procedures are sought in addition to Acupuncture, we will still focus on nourishing the body for optimal follicle and egg development as well as building an optimal intrauterine environment for the embryo.
